Part 1.    A little bit of history

The Draughts Website has come to life this day year, September 3rd, 2011.

Many people know that it all started with the Draughts Tournament group in the VK social network. After one of the tournaments in July 2008 Ivan Trofimov had an idea to share photos and discuss this event with other draught players. That’s how a group of the Draught Tournaments was created.

The group developed, new draughts players entered it, new photos were added, and different tournaments were discussed. Also, the results and final sheets were added. Now there are 875 participants, 93 photo albums and 75 videos in this group!!! And a number of the tournament sheets is incalculable Besides, a lot of interesting contests were held in this group, and it was popular with young draughts players in Russia and the neighboring countries, aged draughts players also visited it.  

Soon it became clear that the group can’t meet all our needs... There was an idea of creating the draughts website, and a special topic was made.

It was a good idea, but it wasn’t that easy to bring it to life. Some people have given up all hope... But we’ve got good news on June 20th, 2011! Yuri Vikoulov, a draughts player from St. Petersburg, suggested creating a consolidated site that will have a "reliable sponsor and a good chief editor." One of the main expectations was creating the best draughts website. The work has begun, and now we can see its result –the Draughts Website!

Part 2.    This year has been very fruitful

Right from the very start a chief editor, Ivan Trofimov, ran into a serious problem. He had to “fight on two fronts”: to add information on the tournaments and write new assignments to the programmer, since the website was still unfinished. All these problems were redoubled by a lack of experience. The shortfalls were corrected, but the new once appeared again and again... Many different programmers (webmasters) worked on it and gave up. As a result, by the summer of 2012 the website had a lot of drawbacks and no webmaster. We looked for new webmasters, but in vain. Ivan Trofimov realized that it makes no headway and decided to take matters into his own hands! He devoted the second half of July and the first half of August to basics of web skills. And, as you can see, there’s great progress! At the moment we managed to fix a number of serious issues (we’ll give more details on them after completion of website modernization). Unfortunately, during this modernization new assets are not added to the site, as it is unreal for one person to do everything. Some people help Ivan, but their efforts are not enough. I’d also like to mention the main achievement of this year. Thanks to Alexander Georgiev’s idea, AJLA support and a good work of Ivan Trofimov and a flash programmer, a unique AJLA combination service AJLA combination was created and developed (draughts combinations. The programmer who developed this service will get an assignment to improve it in the near future.

Part 3.    Contest!

On this great occasion (the Draughts Website birthday!) our sponsor AJLA asks you to take part in our contest! The task is to create an image for the website heading. As of now, three images are changing randomly:

They need to be swapped with the draughts theme images. We suggest you drawing such images! If you can’t make an image on your computer – please draw a sketch on paper, and send it to us. There might be the website name over the image:

The size of the image should match the size of the one above (600h80 px).

Three participants will be awarded by AJLA for the best images!
